Obviously, I'm not the
only one collecting and writing about antique
typewriters. The number of collectors is growing, as is demand for the
most collectible machines. There are a lot of sites that are better
(and
probably more accurate) than mine. Fair warning: These sites come and
go as collectors come and go. If the link doesn't work today, try again
tomorrow.
Some of the better collectors' sites include:
|
|
|
Richard Polt's page has been one of the best site for antique typewriters for years. His links page also is outstanding. |
Chuck Dilts andRich Cincotta are now pretty much the proprietors of this group and its great typewriter publication. |
|
A very informative page including restoration and shipping tips. |
It's in Swedish. Enjoy the great images. |
|
'Typex is your link to antique office equipment.' That's what it says on the page. It's true. |
Darryl Rehr 's online reference page on ribbon tins. |
|
Anthony Casillo's been collecting for decades and his site is a great resource. |
Another of Darryl Rehr's great typewriter pages. |
|
|
The lady has a love affair with the typewriter |
|
|
Another part of Chuck & Rick's expanding antique typewriter empire. |
|
Typewriter & office machine manuals, reprints - and more. |
An ongoing restoration project, a parts exchange page and lots more on this great site. Paul stays busy. |
|
Jay's trying to put online a photo of every collectible typewriter. He's not there yet, but he's doing great. |
Think typewriters are only collected in the U.S.? The Northern Hemisphere. Here's an Australian site. |
|
Got an old Underwood? Want to know how old? This is where you can find out. The page isn't always up; if it isn't, come back in a few days ... |
If you want to buy an old, reconditioned typewriter to use, this is where to go. |

| Brand-new site, Portable Typewriters by Richard Milton. Impressive site. VERY well-written. I'm jealous. | If you speak Spanish, Fernando Costa, a Brazilian collctor, has created a very nice site. máquinas de escrever antigas. |
As is the nature of internet stuff, these links change with rapid regularity. If you find a bad one, e-mail me and I'll try to fix it, eventually.
There ar an AWFUL lot of other typewriter links out there, and at the risk of messing any more up, I'll just send you to the source. That's probably where I'd get 'em anyway.
Richard Polt just updated his links list and it's a truely wonderful thing. The most complete by miles that I know of. Just to to Richard Polt's Links at http://xavier.xu.edu/~polt/tw-links.html. If it's not there, it may not exist.
Chuck & Rich (Rich Cincotta and Chuck Dilts ) also moderate a mailing list of well over 200 typewriter collectors who debate and discuss, buy, sell, trade and argue about the old machines. You can reach them about joining at chuck101@erols.com . As it's moderated, it's a good, informative, pleasant list and worth the effort. You'll likely learn something about collecting typewriters and ephemera. Even if you don't mean to.
There's also an automated
listserv at TYPEWRITERS@yahoogroups.com
.
It can be somewhat contentious at times. The listserv also slips in a
persistent
ad for the company's web site and occasionally lets a piece of spam or
two sneak through. Hey, it's Yahoo. But it can be entertaining when the
egos don't get in the way. I belong. It's often painless. It's getting
quite active; but there's a digest feature if you prefer. Since it's
owned
by Yahoo, it can be a royal pain at times. It's computers. You never
got
spammed or signed off by a typewriter.
