TYPEWRITER LINKS

Obviously, I'm not the only one collecting and writing about antique typewriters. The number of collectors is growing, as is demand for the most collectible machines. There are a lot of sites that are better (and probably more accurate) than mine. Fair warning: These sites come and go as collectors come and go. If the link doesn't work today, try again tomorrow.

Some of the better collectors' sites include:

  • The Virtual Typewriter Museum  Paul Robert's new venture is now one of the best and most likely the biggest typewriter site on the Web. It's growing fast and already includes more information about typewriters and ephemera than almost anyone else. It makes my site look kinda shabby by comparison. Check it out. It includes everything from animations to erotica. Typewriters, too.
  •
  • The Classic Typewriter Page

  • Richard Polt's page has been one of the best site for antique typewriters for years. His links page also is outstanding.
  • Early Typewriter Collector's Assn.

  • Chuck Dilts andRich Cincotta are now pretty much the proprietors of this group and its great typewriter publication.
  • Mike Campbell's Typewriter Page

  • A very informative page including restoration and shipping tips.
  • The Swedish Typewriter Page

  • It's in Swedish. Enjoy the great images.
  • The Typewriter Exchange

  • 'Typex is your link to antique office equipment.' That's what it says on the page. It's true.
  • The Ribbon Tin Connection

  • Darryl Rehr 's online reference page on ribbon tins.
  • The Typewriter Collector's Website

  • Anthony Casillo's been collecting for decades and his site is a great resource.
  • The QWERTY Connection

  • Another of Darryl Rehr's great typewriter pages.
  • Check out Charles Gu's MyTypewriters.com   site, billed as 'the online classic typewriter store.' Pretty cool.
  • Lady Typewriter

  • The lady has a love affair with the typewriter
  • As a fellow Oliver lover, I highly recommend The Shannon L. Johnson Typewriter Collection.   Shannon looks at various  machines and related items that he's accumulated, with special emphasis on Corona and, of course, Oliver.
  • Chuck & Rich's Typewriter Homepage

  • Another part of Chuck & Rick's expanding antique typewriter empire.
  • Office Machine Americana

  • Typewriter & office machine manuals, reprints - and more.
  • Paul Robert's Typewriter Restoration Site

  • An ongoing restoration project, a parts exchange page and lots more on this great site. Paul stays busy.
  • Jay Respler's Typewriter Illustrations

  • Jay's trying to put online a photo of every collectible typewriter. He's not there yet, but he's doing great.
  • The Antique Typewriter Down Under Connection

  • Think typewriters are only collected in the U.S.? The Northern Hemisphere. Here's an Australian site.
  • The Underwood No. 5 Typewriter Page

  • Got an old Underwood? Want to know how old? This is where you can find out. The page isn't always up; if it isn't, come back in a few days ...
  • The St. Louis Wholesale Typewriter Co.

  • If you want to buy an old, reconditioned typewriter to use, this is where to go.
  • I thought we'd lost these guys for a while, but The Italian Collectors on the Internet (More properly Museo Glauco Pegorini Index ) just moved its address. It's mostly in Italian. It's still cool
  • Auction Team Breker, a German auction house, specializes in many mechanical devices, including typewriters. Bring your checkbook.
  • Collector and friend Herman Price has a new page called Price-Less Antique Typewriers and Stuff. It's got some images of some REAL rare old machines. Herman has a LOT of machines. A lot of OLD machines. A lot of OLD, RARE machines. He even got one from me.
  • Typewriter Collecting by Will Davis :  Will's site focuses on newer  portables that most collectors don't know about or don't find as 'collectible' as the older machines. He's dug up some interesting and obscure portables in his searches. Makes you reevaluate 'c
  • Brand-new site,  Portable Typewriters by Richard Milton. Impressive site.  VERY well-written. I'm jealous. If you speak Spanish, Fernando Costa, a Brazilian collctor, has created a very nice site. máquinas de escrever antigas.

As is the nature of internet stuff, these links change with rapid regularity. If you find a bad one, e-mail me and I'll try to fix it, eventually.

There ar an AWFUL lot of other typewriter links out there, and at the risk of messing any more up, I'll just send you to the source. That's probably where I'd get 'em anyway.

Richard Polt just updated his links list and it's a truely wonderful thing. The most complete by miles that I know of. Just to to Richard Polt's Links at http://xavier.xu.edu/~polt/tw-links.html. If it's not there, it may not exist.

Chuck & Rich (Rich Cincotta and Chuck Dilts ) also moderate a mailing list of well over 200 typewriter collectors who debate and discuss, buy, sell, trade and argue about the old machines. You can reach them about joining at chuck101@erols.com .   As it's moderated, it's a good, informative, pleasant list and worth the effort. You'll likely learn something about collecting typewriters and ephemera. Even if you don't mean to.

There's also an automated listserv at TYPEWRITERS@yahoogroups.com . It can be somewhat contentious at times. The listserv also slips in a persistent ad for the company's web site and occasionally lets a piece of spam or two sneak through. Hey, it's Yahoo. But it can be entertaining when the egos don't get in the way. I belong. It's often painless. It's getting quite active; but there's a digest feature if you prefer. Since it's owned by Yahoo, it can be a royal pain at times. It's computers. You never got spammed or signed off by a typewriter.
